Wedding - Decorations Watering cans

This wedding decoration lends itself to a number of different themes. They are cute and fairly cheap. They can be used as the theme piece for your wedding or just as a decoration. You can gather them in many styles, sizes, and colors. Try gathering some old ones; paint a picture on the sides if you are artistic. Decorate them with flowers, put flowers in them and use them as centerpieces, or use them as candle holders.

NOTE: Another idea if your ceremony is outdoors, consider using them to pave the way down the isle, or to an area you want to direct guests. Just don’t put candles in them if you are using them for the bridal runway. You wouldn’t want anyone’s clothes to catch on fire coming down the aisle. These would look adorable at the end of each of chair, or for that matter even in a church filling them with flowers. You could have someone move them later to the reception area and get double use of the decoration!

Here are two ideas with directions:

Pathway for a garden wedding

Materials required:

  1. A couple of dozen small metal watering cans. These can be found at craft stores for just a couple of dollars, watch for sales and get them for even less.
  2. Candles–These can be any type small. The example here, I was lucky enough to find small jar citronella candles that fit perfectly inside the watering cans and doubled to keep the bugs away!
  3. Ribbon or flowers to decorate handles.

Directions for wedding garden path:

EASY EASY EASY!

  1. Cut a piece of ribbon, or tulle and tie around handle. Fluff the bow and that’s it!
  2. Place the candle inside.
  3. When placing for the path, arrange every 2-3 feet on either side and then stagger them. This will give off some light in the evening hours.

NOTE: I did this to direct guest traffic to various spots in the yard and even to the restrooms, when it got dark.

They are beautiful in the daylight as well as functional in the evening.

They can even be used as centerpieces on your wedding guest tables!

FRESH FLOWER DIRECTIONS

These will have to be done the morning of the wedding if certain flowers are used that wilt fast. Typically they can be done the day before. Just don’t fill container full with water or they will spill on transport.

  1. Place a water holding Styrofoam piece inside the container
  2. Using tulle or ribbon, tie a bow around the handle.
  3. Fill with water. (ONLY ½ FULL)
  4. Cut stems of desired flowers and arrange in the foam. If using as a centerpiece the flowers must be arrange so that all sides look nice. If using as a display basket for a table where only one side is visible, then you only need to worry about one side, the front view. See pictures for ideas.

SILK FLOWERS

  1. Place Styrofoam piece inside the container. Cut styrofoam with knife as shown to fit container.
  2. Using tulle or ribbon, tie a bow around the handle.
  3. Cut wire stems according to height desired. Vary heights, so they will look natural. Use a variety of flowers and colors, large, medium, small, and filler. Use color and flower types according to your wedding theme. Don’t be afraid  to use various types and mix colors. All flowers are beautiful!!
  4. Arrange the flowers using the largest flower first.
  5. Then place the medium flowers, pushing them into the foam so they are slightly lower than the large center flower.

Continue around the sides placing medium flowers.

Last, place two longer stems of a tiny branched flower like apple blossoms.

Arrange and place the watering cans to desired location. If sending to the reception hall, make sure you send them the day before and inform the reception hall manager, where you want them placed.

That’s it! Easy economical decorated wedding paths, aisles, or even favors for the guests! If using as favors be sure to place a thank you tag on the handle.
