Wedding favor fishing lures

wedding_favor_fishing_lure_completedPresenting wedding favors for your male guests will undoubtedly send a more personal message to thank them for attending. If you have a number of male guests that are into fishing, many males are, then thank them with inexpensive fishing lures which will be very much appreciated. The idea is to wrap each one, place a thank you tag on them, and then place them in a large decorated basket at the entrance of the reception area. This allows the guests to receive their thank you immediately upon arrival.

They will be quite pleased with the fact that they are receiving something practical that can be used later.

Small fishing lures can be purchased fairly inexpensively. Scout out a nearby sporting goods store or chain store. Typically they will have large bins of tiny lures for less than a $1.00.  This is fairly reasonable in terms of pricing for purchased favors.

Of course don't purchase them until you have a good guest count of male guests, and don't forget to include the fathers and bridal party. They will want one too!

Directions:

Items Required:

  1. Scissors
  2. Tape
  3. Tulle
  4. Ribbon
  5. Thank you Tag (make with your computer) wedding_favors_items_fishing

In this case, let the males see what they are getting and wrap only in tulle or ribbon.  Men generally don’t require the elegance of a wrapping.  So, save your money.

  1. Ribbon (anything that fits your color theme) black would be a good color regardless of other color scheme.
  2. Tulle (purchase a spool of 6 or 8” wide) can be found at local craft store – any color) Black again, would be a nice choice, but white or off white if fine.
  3. Fishing Lure (these can be small lures approximately 1". If they come in a small plastic box, even better so hooks don't get in the way of wrapping with tulle)

Directions:

  1. Cut a piece of tulle according to size of wedding favor.
  2. Cut a piece of ribbon and tie a regular bow, like you would your shoelaces and then fluff the tulle or ribbons to make the bow stand out.

Making the tag:

  1. Use paper of your choice.  Color can be fine as long as the text is visible.
  2. Using a word processor on your computer, type what you wish to say, or a short poem.

Using copy paste after you have written the first tag, repeat down the page, print and cut out. Leave room in the upper left corner to punch a hole.

     3. Punch a small hole in the upper left corner and slip the ribbon through to tie on tag. Tie tag carefully awedding_favor_fishing_lure_completednd lightly as to not rip the paper.

ALTERNATIVE: You could also tape the tag on the favor.

Example:          Our sincerest thank you for sharing in our special day.
We are glad we “hooked” you into coming.
Please accept this gift as a token of our appreciation,
We hope that you will enjoy the day.”

(In this case “hooked” being a word used to associate with the wedding favor)

Hint: You might also consider using the wording reel you in to our special day when using fishing lures)

The wording can be anything.  Try to make associate it to the gift in some special way.

Finally, you need to decide where the wedding favors will be placed.  They could be placed on the dinner plate, or on the tables.   Try placing the favors in a basket at the entrance.  For directions on basket ideas and decorations see basket decorating (coming soon).  If placing on tables, remember how your male/female guests will be seated.  If you have a table that is all male or vice versa, you will want to place wedding favors accordingly.

Remember the pluses of placing the wedding favors in baskets at the entrance.  They can be filled ahead of time and brought to the reception.  If not, someone will need to be charged with the placement on tables and know exactly where everyone will be seated.

Don’t forget the thank you message you are sending as soon as your guests arrive if placed at the entrance.  Furthermore, by placing at the entrance many guests forget their wedding favors at the tables, this way if forgotten they can pick one up on their way out as well.
