Today rules no longer apply for wedding flowers type or color. The traditional all white bouquets are not as popular as they once were. By this I mean you can have anything you want, mix and match and pick your favorites. What you are probably looking for is ideas, or pictures of what you might like. Since my web site is still under construction I don’t have a photo gallery yet, but please stop back as I will be posting up a number of pictures, ideas, and flower arranging instructions that you can use, make yourself, or take pictures to your local florist to reproduce. In the meantime, here is some information that will get you started before settling in on what type or style of flowers you want at your wedding. If you are looking to save money, gather all of the information you can before you make any decisions. Flowers are a very important aspect of your wedding because they set the atmosphere or tone of your ceremony and reception. Flowers can say a great deal about you. You can send a dramatic message with vivid mixed colors, which can be very stunning against a white or off–white wedding dress or bridesmaid’s dresses. Contrasting colors is becoming more popular than ever. Choosing bouquets similar in color to bridesmaid’s dresses blend in when taking photos. Pictures that have contrasting color stand out more. You could decide that every bridesmaid carries a different color bouquet or have them carry same color but differing bouquets of a single flower type. Again, this sends a striking image against gowns. For example, your matron of honor may carry roses, a bridesmaid carry lilies, another carries daisies, and another carries carnations all of the same color. Another thought might be to carry the same flowers in different colors. The options are infinite. The best advice I can give you is to close your eyes and picture a bouquet of lavender flowers against a lavender dress. Got it? O.K., now do the same with a bright contrasting color let’s say deep purples. Now which would be more striking in a photograph? In the days of old, when a bride chose a color for their wedding, they told their florist the colors of the dress, and the florist would try to match everything. Don’t believe me? Look at some older pictures. Ask your mom or a friend if they took a piece of fabric to the florist to match colors. I bet they did, we all did, so did I. The flowers blended in against the dresses. Be dramatic even with boutonnieres, corsages, or other floral decorations. You may pick a single flower type that you like as a main theme, but consider using a mixture of flower types for a dramatic effect.
