Make these equisite, but simple wedding favor boxes for almost nothing! If you really want to save some money rather than buying tiny bags or premade boxes, try your hand at these. They are so simple and really cheap, but look like a million bucks! You can put just about anything in them.
Homemade cookies, candy, soap, or potpourri, will send that personal message and your guests will love them. They will look gorgeous on your tables or in a basket at the entrance. Consider placing them at the entrance in a beautifully decorated basket to say thank you right away.
You can use regular old computer paper if you want. You can also find a great selection of scrapbook paper in your favorite craft or dollar stores that might match your theme. They have an amazing variety these days. If you are going for that traditional look I recommend parchment paper. You can buy a small ream for $6-$7 dollars that will make a ton.
To make these beautiful favors here are very detailed directions that anyone can follow even if you don't consider yourself crafty. Try a few with regular construction paper and you'll see just how easy they are.
Materials Needed:
1. Paper - size of paper depends on the size of box you want.
11" square produces a box approximately 4" x 2"
8" square produces a box approximately 3" x 1.5 -
You can play around with paper size to make the size of the box you need for the contents you desire.
2. Scissors
3. Ribbon
Yes - That’s it, that's all you need, unless you opt to put a tiny accessory on it.
Directions:
TOP:
1. Layout out the paper on a flat surface. If there is printing on one side, print side down on the table so you are looking at the wrong side of the paper. Fold the paper from corner to corner in half. Open back up, fold the opposite corner to corner.
2. Next fold each corner into the center.

3. Open the paper back up. This time take one corner and fold up to the opposite corner (fold line) see picture
repeat this for each corner. Open the paper back up and you should see equal square folds.
4. Next step is to make two cuts on opposite sides of the paper. You will be cutting on each side of the point, two square across and deep. See photo for illustration.
Also fold in each point to the first fold as shown in the picture.
5. Next, you will fold in the sides twice. See picture, and repeat for each side.
6. The next step is to fold in the points twic on each end of the double fold you just did. Press and make good
creases.Repeat for each side.
7. Next take the end flaps and fold in once. Then bring in the sides and fold the end flaps over the top of the two ends.
Tuck flap, and crease well. This will hold the sides in place. Repeat for the other end.

BOTTOM:
1. Take a sheet of paper. This can be simply white, rather than a printed paper, since the bottom is completeling covered with the top.
Cut about 1/8 - 1/4 inch off each side of paper, make sure it is square or the folds will be off. The bottom sheet needs to be slightly smaller than the top so it will fit properly.
2. Repeat the folding process above as you did for the top.
3. Place the cover over the bottom
4. Decorate. You can tie with any kind of ribbon. I recommend wire ribbon if you are not a bow maker. It fluffs out nicely for the bowls and
twists where ever you need it to. If not using wire ribbon, consider the satin ribbon that is the same on both sides. This way when you tie the bow, the shiny side will show up no matter what.
5. Embellish with whatever you wish. Flowers or tiny items that may fit your theme. If you are having a traditional or Victorian wedding consider placing old fashion buttons on the bows. They will hot glue on very easily, and you can buy a large bag at a local craft store for very little.
6. Lastly, depending upon what you will fill your box with place a small piece of tissue inside. Tissue comes in many beautiful colors now, and works well for homemade cookies. If filling with homemade baked goods, don't fill and tie until the day or so before, unless you will wrap in plastic wrap first to keep them fresh.
If you are worried about the time it will take you, ask your bridal party or friends and family to come over and have a favor making party. You'll have a great time!
Don't forget the tags. These can be made very easily with our computer with matching paper you used on the boxes or even a contrasting color. You can even make them by hand. In this illustration I made a heart shaped tag. Don't foget to write thank you on the inside. You can place both the bride and groom's initials on the tags if you like. I used a stencil to make my tags. You can find them in your local craft stores, and then I just used a think marker to color in over the plastic template. (See blue box above with initial's AR. Below I used various items - even glitter for the initials AK. I simply used a glue stick and swipped over the plastic template, and then carefully put some glitter on it. I shook it off, and then cleaned the template. Repeat for the second initial. Looks great and sparkles on the favor box.
Notice on the gold box I used a tiny lace heart and then glued on a gold and pearl button. The tag is simply the same paper and the initials are done with pre-made initial labels you can peel and stick from your local craft store.
