Wedding Flowers - Do it yourself

Wedding flowers do it yourself is not as difficult as you might think. There are so many creative choices that chances are you will find something that will be just as beautiful as hiring a florist. Flowers speak for themselves.

One of the first items that you need to determine is if you have the time to devote to doing your own flowers. This will depend on how elaborate you want them, and if you want fresh flowers or silk. There are pros and cons to both, or perhaps you may want a mixture of both. I have used fresh flowers for the wedding party, and did silks for all the decorations at other weddings. Silk flowers are easy to arrange and much less costly. Silks also look beautiful in pictures, and never wilt or turn brown! You can’t tell the difference, and if you are worried they don’t smell, don’t worry; there are sprays and oils you can put on them to make them smell! Actually this could be a good thing that they don’t smell if a number of family or friends have allergies.

If you are looking to have fresh flowers don’t hesitate to look to local wholesalers or wholesale flowers stores on the Internet. I have used them and surprisingly they come beautiful and last an extremely long time, even days beyond the wedding. Purchasing flowers wholesale rather than a florist is much less expensive. One vendor I have used sent six dozen roses and it was a warm time of year. I was worried that they may not last and would wilt. To my surprise I learned that rose petals at the florist are peeled back several times before we even see them. The roses came the day before the wedding completely closed and tight budded, along with instructions. “Place the roses in a cool dark place and put a small amount of bleach in the water.” Hmmm… interesting. The next morning take off the outer petals and voila! They were just beautiful, not a flower was damaged in the shipping and they lasted about a week beyond the wedding. I will not hesitate to use this vendor again.

The other great thing about ordering wholesale is that they generally have flower packages. In other words, they even have certain amountsand types of flowers, or even wedding packages with greenery and baby’s breathe for bargain pricing. Don’t underestimate ordering flowers on line from wholesale vendors.

When ordering flowers you have several choices on what you can do with them. You can make formal arrangements or place them in vases. There are a number of creative ideas for vases and you can purchase them at a local dollar store or craft mart. In addition, one of the great things about arranging yourself is you can practice ahead of time to see what you like, and how long it takes, of course if you are using silks you can arrange weeks or months ahead of time.

Don’t think of flowers just for bouquets or centerpieces, there is so much more you can do with them. If you want to create a dramatic atmosphere the more flowers the better and they can be used everywhere. Archways, doors, baskets, put them on the cake table, tie them on the cake server, decorate the head table, poles, and doorways. Think of the memories and personal reward you will have by making your own wedding flowers. Oh, and don’t forget it doesn’t have to be totally by yourself, you can enlist the help of friends and have a get together to craft your dreams.

As the construction of my website grows I will be placing pictures and more detailed instructions along with the necessary materials on how to do some of these projects. Please visit often. Thank you for stopping by!
