Simple but elegant wedding favors - Can also be combined for a centerpiece.
Ginger Jars and dollies make a great statement! They have the ability to host any kind of content, particularly candy, are fairly cheap, but pack the punch of elegance! Your guests will love them because they are both editable and they are useful after the wedding for just about anything small. Buttons, screws, nuts, and bolts you get the picture.
To make these favors and make the centerpiece at the same time follow the directions below.
Items you will need
1. Small ginger jars or any tiny jar. (These can be purchased online or at any craft store for 25-50 cents. Watch for sales and get them even cheaper. Local dollar stores are a good source as well.
2. Small jar for the center. Save your old pickle and condiment jars. Have your friends start saving them too!
3. Small Doilies’ - you can get these small 3-4 inch dollies very cheap at a craft store. Look in the bins where the dollies are. Often they go on sale sometimes even 10 for a dollar. TIP: If you can not find doilies, purchase some lace or fabric from a local store. This will look just as elegant. Cut in circles. Round Tulle will equally work.
4. Medium Doilies’ for the centerpiece. Make sure you check the size and that it will cover the jars you intend to use. Remember you will only need one per table, for the centerpiece portion.
5. Ribbon (match or contrast your wedding theme)
6. Scissors
7. Small flower sprigs, you can buy these really cheap as well. Consider purchasing a large spray and cut off the sprigs you will need. This is cheaper than buying the package type.
8. Tulle– instead of ribbon if you desire.
9. Thank you tags (make on your computer)
10. Filler–candy is great! Consider the time of year and fill with something related to the time of year. For instance if it is Easter–fill with jelly beans, Valentines Day (small sweet tarts). For this example, it was close to Valentines Day so I used mini pink hearts and lips. If it is around Halloween, consider filling with candy corn. Candy kisses go well anytime of year. You get the idea! Don’t forget the traditional candy almonds if you wish to look at a more traditional candy.
11. Mixed stems of flowers for the centerpiece. A nice idea is to fill them with real flowers from a friend’s garden, or purchase some online. You won’t have to worry about filling them until the day of the wedding, and you can have someone else charged with doing this at the reception.
12. Candy or another filler of your choice.
DIRECTIONS
1. Fill the jars with chosen candy contents. Only fill half way. They do not need to be full.
2. Take the doilies’ and place over the top of the jar.
3. Take a piece of ribbon or tulle, cut to approximately 15-16 inches (Do one first to get the length of ribbon, and then cut the rest you will need after making sure it is the right size to go around the jar and leave enough room for bow and ends.
a. Before placing around the jar, start to make a tie,
b. Then slip over the jar and tie tight. This is easier then struggling with the doilies that might slip while you are trying to tie the knot.
c. Finish by tie a regular bow (like your shoelace)
4. Next, take a sprig of flower and tuck behind the ribbon. You can also tuck the stem through the doilies as there are lots of holes in it. This hinds the stem end and helps to secure it. No glue, no tape, no extra tying!
5. Next, if desired take your computer made tags and punch a hole in the corner.
6. Use the ribbon ends and tie lightly to secure. Not to tight or you will rip the paper.

Centerpiece:
Repeat the same process as above for the small wedding favors, and wrap the larger
jar with the doilies.

NOTE: Make sure not to make the centerpiece to high. Guests will want to converse, and tall centerpieces get in the way of conversations. So don’t place flowers in the vases taller than 12-14 inches. This will leave ample space above to carry on conversation for your wedding guests.

Next, fill with flowers.
If using silk or fresh flowers cut stems so that they are not to long and fit at the right height for the jar. Make a small bouquet and place in the jar. Place the smaller ginger jar favors around the center jar and...
VOILA!
You now have a wedding centerpiece as well as favors completed for your guests. You have accomplished the task of making something very elegant and yet very inexpensive that your guests will love and will also look spectacular on your tables.
