Calligraphy for your wedding invitations

Wedding invitation calligraphy adds an element of beauty, intrigue, flare, and tradition.

Calligraphy means the art of beautiful writing. While the art of writing in curved scrolling script is lovely, this beautiful writing is not as prevalent as it once was. It is still thought of; however, for sending out formal invitations, particularly associated with weddings.

They are many calligraphy sites online and available for hire to hand write all of your invitations, inner and out envelopes, and response cards. They can be expensive when combined with the cost of the invitation itself. Prices range from .85 to well over a dollar per invitation. If you are into saving time from addressing your own invitations, and have an unlimited budget, then by all means hire an online vendor. There are many reputable vendors doing a beautiful job. There are even vendors that will mail them out for you, and all you have to do is send them your guest list. This is a really nice feature, but also costly. Your budget will dictate whether you can afford such a luxary.

However, if you are a bride trying to save money, but still want the elegance of scrolling text across your invitations, then consider doing this yourself. I am not at all implying that you learn the art of calligraphy unless you really want to, but rather use your computer.

Yes! I did say use your computer. There are many fonts available online, many even free that you can download to your computer and use to print the invitations, envelopes, and response cards.

Some styles that I have downloaded are as follows and they were free!

If you are considering doing your own invitations, you can save considerable money.  Search some free sites for downloading free calligraphy fonts. With a good printer, nice paper, or invitations you can print a professional looking invitation in no time at all. Your guests won't know the difference. It will just be a matter of finding the right wording and paper or card style.

Compare the cost of purchasing blank cards and envelopes with the cost of an invitation vendor and see which is more reasonable. If they don't show any blank invitations, ask them if they sell them. You will find them more reasonable. Do include the cost of an ink cartridge though when doing your comparison, because cartridges can range in upwards of $25.00 for color and only a bit less for black.
