Talk about saving money and sending a message to your guests!!This is the most inexpensive way to add style to your wedding, and save an incredible amount of money.

Again, this idea for decorating is versatile and can be matched to any theme, fun, whimsical, traditional, elegant, the possibilities are endless.Whether you are using china or paper plates, you can add that special decorative touch to your celebration. This is easy easy easy way to make and look awesome on any table.

Materials Needed:

  1. Empty paper towel or toilet paper rolls, yes that’s right, cardboard!
  2. Ribbon
  3. Small artifact or flowers (this depends on your theme.)
  4. Paint with regular old tempera, this will do just fine, for painting cardboard. This will depend on your color of ribbon and if the cardboard will show through. Some ribbons are now iridescent. If this is the case, then paint the cardboard first.
  5. Glue gun

Directions:

  1. Cut the cardboard rolls in 1-1/14 inch widths. I use a serrated knife, which didn’t flatten the roll as I was sawing.
  2. Paint the circles inside and out if the ribbon will show through, if it isn’t going to show through, then don’t paint!
  3. Using your ribbon, start an end on the inside and leave a tail for tying off.Begin wrapping all the way around the ring with a slight overlap to cover the ring. When you get to the end, tie off both ends securely to hold ribbon in place.Leave enough on the ends to tie a bow and leave an inch for ends.Trim ends.

TIP:After you have wrapped one ring, unwrap to see how much ribbon you used. Then measure and cut the rest of your ribbon accordingly. This way you will not waste ribbon and know exactly how much it takes to wrap each one. This will also assist you in knowing how much ribbon to buy.

NOTE: I used thin ribbon as it is less expensive, but does require more wrapping. Also, the size of the bow will be determined by the artifact that you will be placing on the napkin ring.Look in the wedding sections of craft stores for any specialty ribbons you may want to use.I just used plain old off white and black satin ribbon.

  1. After tying off with the bow-place the artifact or flower over the knot with a dab of hot glue.

OPTIONAL: You could glue on a thank you tag if your intent is to use them as favors, although not necessary.

Great! After glue is dry, place over a napkin and see the awesome results.Your wedding guests will be pleased not only that you decorated them yourself, but that they add such a personal tasteful touch.

NOTE:You can even decorate them differently for male and female guests.Try alternating colors.Black for men, and your wedding color(s) for women.Place different artifacts on them as well.

Artifact Ideas:

Buttons
Flower Sprigs
Small bow ties (for men)
Tiny shoes for women (especially if you are going for a Victorian theme)
Mini musical instruments
If the groom is military, consider tiny flags
Spangles/stones/sparkles,these can be found at craft stores.

You can find many tiny items in the scrapbook sections of craft or dollar stores.

Last suggestion:Place all of your napkins rings in a box and give to the person setting up at the reception.Let them know ahead of time that you wish the napkins to be setup in a particular way with the napkin rings around them at each place setting.

Well done you have just:

  1. Saved money towards favors
  2. You decorated your wedding with a tasteful traditional of napkin rings
