How do I go about my wedding planning?

Where should you start wedding planning? Well let the excitement of being engaged settle a bit. Your first wedding planning order of business is to communicate to your family and close friends that you are getting married. Your first thought will be images of that white wedding dress.  Face it, you have been dreaming about it for years. My first suggestion is to try not to run out and try on every dress in every boutique. There will be time for this and planning will be key to getting just the right dress.

So what should you be doing?

You will want to tell your parents, and announcing to them in person is best. If in person is not possible and you live out of town from your parents then by all means tell them right away. An email is o.k., but a personal phone call is better. They will have all kinds of questions after the flurry of congratulations are over, so be prepared.

Let them know that there will be many decisions to make and you will begin thinking of these after you have collected some important information. Your parents and friends will want to be a part of the planning process, so do not refuse their help. You will need all the support you can get. They will not be making the decisions for you, but helping you reach your dreams. Keep in mind that those who love you will want to help.

Sometimes help can be confused with control or taking over in the decision making process. Do not let this bog you down, your parents and friends do in fact want you to be happy, so the decisions will be yours when you are armed with good information on how to plan, the details will come later.

This is where I come in with suggestions on the organizing process. I do not have all the answers, and only you know what it is that will make you happy, but I can help with reaching your goals by providing suggestions, ideas, and a sound planning framework to keep you grounded and help you realize those dreams!
